Second Chances

Trevor Lessaris

Hi guys! My name is Jaden Lessaris. Im currently a junior in high school at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. I was born on July 10th coincidentally, the same day my dad was born. Growing up, he was my favorite person to be around. He would always do the things I wanted to do, even if he didn't want too. He was my dad and I looked up to him. Throughout my life I was told he was struggling with a drug addiction, but I never wanted to believe it. I would visit him every few weeks until I was around 11 years old. This was when I realized it was true, he did have an addiction. For the next few years the time i spent with him lessened and I only saw him twice within three years. We didn’t call or text as much as we used to. I knew deep down something wasn’t right but I was too afraid to reach out. If I could change that, I would. At 14 years old, I got the call that he had overdosed and passed away. The regret hit me for avoiding him. My dad was never perfect, but he was my dad. Its been 2 and a half years and I’ve been trying to find a way to honor his memory. Although I can’t help my dad, I would like to help others fight their addiction. Bringing awareness to drug and alcohol addiction is so important to me, everyone deserves a second chance. If you would like to help me on my journey to raising $5,000 it would mean the world to me!
