If I Can Do it...So Can You

Hello My name is Brenda P. and I currently live in Middlesex County. With the help of Narcotics Anonymous' 12 step program, I've been clean for 28 years. As of August 5th I'll be for 29 years.

When I attended my first NA meeting at the VA hospital in East Orange, NJ, I went to show up and support my boyfriend who had just got out of a 28 day inpatient rehab. I was in a lot of denial thinking that he had a problem with drugs not me. Even though I was on probation and stipulated by a judge to go to a out or in-patient drug program or do for five years at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility. At that time my plan was to complete the last 6 months of probation, go back to using and never again attend NA.

After being clean six months and completing probation, I continued to go to meetings because I right at home and believed that if others could do it I could too. I had tried many things, i.e. church, switching the type of drugs I used, psychiatry, changing locations but none of those things ever worked.

I felt love, understanding and hope from others NA members that had been clean for long periods of time. I heard someone say if we can do it so can you and that has been my motto ever since. I love NA it saved my life. If I can do it...so can you.
