Brother's Love

Brother's Love

Hello. My name is Kacey. I just turned 18 in January 2013. This story starts when I was about 8.

My older brother wasn't just my older brother. He was my best friend, we did everything together and laughed together. Nobody could ever make me happier than seeing him. But he had an issue in his life he was battling. He got addicted to heroin and pills. He has been through rehab, came out of rehab, and has gone down again. Then his girlfriend got pregnant and after his first daughter was born he went back to rehab. Still didn't over come this horrible demon.?Later in life they split up.?Years passed as he was clean for about 6-8 years. The women he got with and ended up marrying got him back around it. She ended up having his second daughter. Both girls are beautiful.

On November 4, 2010 I came home to find my brother not breathing. He overdosed?in the course of depression and trying to keep clean. To this day I am raising his youngest daughter and the oldest is with her mom.

My point is that?life is too precious to test it.

I lost my best friend and brother. I still cry just thinking about this.

It's been two years but feels like forever. Please don't ever think you're alone with addiction. You're not only hurting yourself, but anyone that cares about you.

I can be a support line. Find me at facebook.com/kaceynicholharris. Stay strong everyone!

Hi Kacey - I'm so sorry you lost your brother... especially to heroin. We have suffered through a heroin addiction with my 18 year old son and we almost lost him several times. I know the heart ache of having your hopes up because they are clean and then having your heart ripped out when they relapse. I'm so sorry those beautiful little girls lost their Dad and that you lost your best friend. What I have learned is that even in the ugliness there is always beauty if you look for it. For example, your nieces and the fact that you have stepped up to be a Mom to one of them... that is truly beautiful. Don't lose hope, keep the faith and keep moving forward and looking up. I will be thinking of you and your nieces and praying for you all.
