Strong and Sober

Strong and Sober

I began using drugs when I was 14 years old, after a very normal childhood was turned upside down when my parents divorced. I was raped, and ended up pregnant the following year. I battled addiction from that day forward. In 2010, I overdosed, lost custody of my kids, and nearly died. Today I have regained custody of my children, am a senior in college with a 4.0 GPA, and have been sober for two and a half years. I can't believe how far I have came and I am so grateful for my continued sobriety. Today I no longer use drugs to hide from my life. I face it head on, good or bad. I am proud of the: strong, thoughtful, passionate woman I am today. Today I am happy. Today I am free.

This Story of Hope was created in celebration of recovery and to let families know that there are pathways to hope and healing. The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who are struggling with their son or daughter's substance use. Please consider sharing this page so that families know where to turn to for help, and that there is always hope.

I'm so sorry to hear the things you went through, but thank God, you made it through the storm and now that you have your kids back, it must feel like you're on top of the world. We go through things in life, but know that He who sits on the Throne, sees all. I lost everything as well and through the power of Christ in my life, He help me overcome. I was telling someone about this book I was reading, and it is very uplifting. I tell everyone about it, because it really inspired me and help me build a relation with my kids as well, because I had blown all of the family finances, but God. The book is Not So Simple Just That Easy, check it out when you have time. God bless you....
