Hope for all

Hope for all

I abused drugs and alcohol for 25 years and should have been dead many times over. I am not going to go into the horror stories that all of us addicts have, instead I would like to share a message of hope. Like I said , I used drugs and alcohol for 25 years and never had the urge or want to quit. I had lost everything, been homeless. I woke up in jail again, not knowing why I was there, I was in a blackout. That day in that jail cell I heard a vioce in my head that said "you're done'. I have not touched drugs or alcohol since that day. That was over 14 years ago. I now provide technical assistance to 10 anti-drug coalitions in my county and have the opportunity to tell my story of hope and recovery to hundreds of adults and children. I have dedicated my life to helping others recover and/or not to start using substances. I have been blessed with the gift of sobriety which I do not take for granted. My worst day sober is better than my best day using. There is always hope that an individual can get and stay sober.

This Story of Hope was created in celebration of recovery and to let families know that there are pathways to hope and healing. The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who are struggling with their son or daughter's substance use. Please consider sharing this page so that families know where to turn to for help, and that there is always hope.
