Career lost, family almost left me, but i'm still here

I worked for the state of Mississippi for almost 13 years. When my dad died, I lost it. I had told him I would mow his lawn that hot August day in 2007, but i didn't make it. He did it himself and had a heart attack....the mail man found him dead among the rose bushes.

I carried that guilt a long time. I hid it behind vodka, xanax, oxycontin, hydrocodone, and finally heroin.

I am a father of 3 loveley children and am married to a long-suffering wife. I fell to the point of using my kids to cover for me when I'd go on drug runs.

I lost my job, I spent my father's life insurance money, my entire retirement fund, my family almost left me, and I tried to kill myself, but the gun clicked instead of firing.

In November 2009 i went into treatment. Since then, I am drug free and in recovery.

It's all about WANTING to stop. I don't care what anyone says - if you WANT to stop enough, you will take the drastic steps in life to shield yourself from ANYONE or ANYTHING that could harm you.
