It was just too late

My name is Megan, I am 29 years old and this last Sunday I buried my father at 59. We were supposed to turn 60 and 30 together this August. Two milestones reached, but that will not happen because of my dad's alcoholism that led to his suicide.

My father was the life of the party, always wanting to have a good time. His favorite things in life were laughter and music. He enstilled in all three of us those two great things growing up. There wasn't a night where he wouldn't sing us a lullaby to sleep. And not just any lullaby, it was either CSNY, CCR, The Beatles, or Elton John; just to name a few. We loved it so much.

However, my father had demons, not really sure why. He had a normal childhood, from our standpoint at least. He started drinking heavily at an early age. His drink of choice was cheap scotch. My mom, however, forbid any hard liquor in the house, only beer. She said it made him mean, she was right. He snuck the scotch on the side of course, and became a functioning alcoholic which he remained up until this last year.

You see my dad started cheating, as well, a sex addiction ensued along with the alcoholism. He eventually left my mother for another woman, got remarried, only to have her leave him for his drinking/anger issues?two years later. He then moved right on, and met whom was his current wife at his passing. She too succumbed to his issues and left. I even left with her, as I was living with them at the time. He not only was getting drunk and getting mean, he started to get violent. Threw me across the room, and I said enough is enough.

About 1:30 am Sunday February 10, 2013 my dad took 20 heart medication pills, 20 blood pressure pills, and 20 antidpressants after downing a liter of scotch. He was pronounced dead at 2:17pm. We tried to help him through the years, and unfortunately, we will have to spend the rest of our lives trying to figure out?what more we could have done.

I love you Daddy to the moon and back.
