Skidrow Surviver

My life in a nutshall...I am 55 yrs. old, and I have been clean from heroin and crack cocaine for 12 yrs. Sometime I look back and wonder how I did it, and why did God chose me of all the addicts I ran with in downtown Los Angeles, skidrow. I lived out on the streets for about 15 yrs homeless and addicted. Being a woman had it's consequences, needless to say none were good. I survived those aweful years by the grace of God. Although I have asked myself why me? Of all the people I ran with back then I am one of only a handful that are still alive today, I think it's because I am a living testemony that it is POSSIBLE to over come this horrible way of life. We as addicts have so much courage and heart, that there is nothing that would stop us when we needed our fixes, same applies when you get clean. You just have to want this in the same manner. Loving myself just a little was the start to my road to recovery, it grew in time and nearly 13 years now I have not stopped loving myself, because I deserve the best life has to offer. To anyone out there that thinks it's impossible...NOT TRUE!! Thats why I have shared my story with you...

I am glad to hear your story. I continues to give me hope for the future. If we put 5% of the effort into being sober that we did in getting high nothing can stop us. Congrats
