I started at 13 years old. I did everything I could to get high. The things I did make me sick now. It's hard to forget the past but its easy to get along with everyday now. Many times I wanted to end it but somehow I didn't. At 41 I quit. The pain was something I never felt before. I've been in a car wreck that took my right hand and burnt the right side of my body. The pain I felt was worse than that. I found a 12 step group and started going to it. Don't think that you can go back to old friends and stay clean or the old hangouts. It was worth it you get more than your wildest dreams. It takes something called a higher power. Make up one if you have to. Just pray to something that loves you and cares. It will happen, just think of something that will stick up for you and loves you. Not a person because people will let you down, things break and loved ones die. Keep the faith.

This Story of Hope was created in celebration of recovery and to let families know that there are pathways to hope and healing. The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who are struggling with their son or daughter's substance use. Please consider sharing this page so that families know where to turn to for help, and that there is always hope.
