My Name is Chris and I am an Alcoholic

My name is Chris and I am an alcoholic. I started drinking at age eleven and doing drugs at 14 years old. I always drank and did drugs to feel anything but myself. I never felt i fit in anywhere! My parents were good people who tried there best to help me. I was beyond help once i began drinking and drugging. I have been in jails institutions and even have been clinically dead at various times of my life.

I am 50 years old now and have been sober for 12 years. At age 37 i got tired of being tired and sick and asked god to help me! I was in a rehab at the time and i finally was able to learn about the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction. I realized i was a sick person and needed to treat my disease. I took the suggestions of the counselors and went to AA meetings after the rehab.

Since aug 18th 2000, i have not found it necessary to take a drink or drug! This is a miracle because i partied everyday for a lot of years! I was able to go back to school and get my degree in addictions counseling i currently work to help people to enjoy the gift of sobriety that was so freely given to me!

For all you still suffering addicts and alcoholics out there remember it doesnt have to be that way anymore. if this drunk and addict can get clean anyone can! Please give the gift of sobriety a chance. we together can do it ! Alone and left to our own freewill we fail. I have learned that faith in a higher power and keeping it simple and not picking up just for today works for me ! I hope and pray it can work for you too! Hopefully it will!
