Hard work pays off!

Hard work pays off!

My name is Kevin, I just saw the commercial for this website and went straight to it. I've been clean for not only drugs but also any sort of negative life style, for 31 months, almost 3 years. I was addicted to ?drugs (oxy contin, and Herion) by 16, when I was 17 my family found out I was stealing money from them and had no idea what was going on. I ran away from home and went to my Father's house who allowed me to use drugs and also used with me. It was actually his way of helping me when I did go to him for help. As a couple days went by, and my Mom continued to try to get me back home and figure out what was going on, I agreed to see a therapist with her to hopefully find out what was going on. By this time I wanted help so on the way to the appointment I told her a bit about what was going on. I got set up with an outpatient program, and within a week saw it wasn't going to work, I ran away again to my Father's, and relapsed.

As this was an on going process, I continued to try to get clean different ways, suboxone, methadone, cold turkey, out patient programs, nothing would work. On August 16, 2010, I was kicked out of my Father's house by my Step Mom who was also using, for stealing from them. By this time I was 18 years old, completely addicted to Heroin, no friends that would talk to me anymore, and I had burnt every bridge I had, leaving me homeless. I called my Mom and she said that she can take me to a homeless shelter and that's about it. I was 18, grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood, so a homeless shelter didn't sound to good, even as a herion addict.

My Mom had told me about an addiction recovery program in Seattle, Washington, months prior to all of this. The Program is called Welcome Home Academy. It is 2 years minimum and this program has saved my life. It has shown me that addiction is not a disease but a choice and that we can stop when ever we "choose" to stop. It is must more than a rehab, it is a Family that holds each other accountable for not just drug and alcohol use, but the bad behaviors that we as addicts have picked up, lying, stealing, manipulating, laziness, lack of consistency, lack of being thankful for life in general, bad attitudes, and so much more. This Program, is the best choice I have ever made. I am back home now, and the things I lost in my life have all comeback, due to hard work and dedication. It definitely wasn't easy but was well worth it, and I'm so thankful for it as we'll as my family is too! The website to the Program is, whrecovery.org, there is multiple different locations, all good, I would recommend the program in Seattle, like I said its a great support group and EVERYTHING an addict needs to change, as long as he wants it. I hope my story has affected or touched someone's family/life, and remember you do have the choice to stop using!
