I wish I knew...

Hey~ So my story starts when I was a sophomore in high school. I was 15 in the past 4 years prior to being 15?my dad, uncle, and grandfather passed away. My grandfather's death hit me the hardest. I was struggling with my weight. I felt ugly, unwanted, unloved. I felt lost. A friend of mine started using Crystal Meth. She told me how great it felt, how much weight she was loosing, and she wanted me to try it too. So that night I used the first drug I ever used in my life. I had only drank alcohol once, and had not even tried pot.

I spent 2 and half years using, lying, stealing so I could get more. I never was happy, I rarely let myself feel feelings. And when I did let myself feel it was too much to bare. I constantly had to struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts when I was coming down. It was the longest, scariest, agonizing years of my life.

When I finally did become clean because I had an amazing support system. I had my mom, close friends and other family behind me. I never went to rehab. I beat my beast myself. I am proud to say that in Dec. 13, 2012 I became six years off. And I am loving life.

Moral of my story: never give up. Find help. And worse comes to worst, move away and start over but you gotta do it for yourself.?

I overlook the older ones for smoking marijuana, but when it comes to their children, especially when one child is 17 just got his license, and drives around smoking this stuff, while the mother knows it. the other co-works do it around their young children while their in the car.

i do not see a problem with kids drinking or smoking...my let me drink evry now and then. say its the 4th of july and were all sitting around after dinner when its dark and we run out of fireworks and we start driking a few beers...my parents will let me have a couple and be cool with it. one day my parents found out i smoke pot...they asked where i get it and stuff and the only thing they really worry about is me getting arrested for it. and i aint stupid so i wont...so loosen up let your kids have a beer or two and maybe even a smoke...my parents beleive that its better to let your kids drink every now and then' and learn their limits that wayy when they go to a party they dont get achohol poisining and die...or worse'get some girl knoked up...wat do you want a teen who knows their limits or a teen who got married due to the fAct she was pregneant?

I have friends that feel it is/was ok to let their kids drink/smoke at home as long as they were there. A couple of these kids have already been to alcohol rehab because of their drinking problems and they are only in their early 20's. So obviously it was NOT ok to let them drink early. I, personally, am a recovering alcoholic with 24 years sober, so I know firsthand what alcohol can to do to some people. It is against the law to allow minors to drink and possession of marijuana is illegal in Illinois....PERIOD

This is a great message and should be shared with parents every where! Something that can seem so benign can turn into something forever life altering!

I just cannot believe that any parent would ever think that allowing a teenager to drink and smoke marijuana is a good thing! Getting high is not a good thing! My sons have friends who parents think its ok to have a beer as long as their around and these are parents I respect. But, my husband and I have made it VERY clear we do not ever want our teens to be given any alcohol under any circumstances by any parent. And, thankfully they all respect that!
