In Honor of Benjamin Ironside

In honor of Benjamin Ironside
I am honored to be running the 2026 New York City Marathon alongside my Aunt Sarah who celebrates 14 years of sobriety this year!

My Uncle Benjamin passed away in the beginning of 2023 from fentanyl toxicity, having accidentally overdosed.

Benjamin had a long struggle with mental health and drugs with periods of time when he had little contact with our family, because his addiction would swallow him up and take him away from us. At the end of Benjamin's life he was living in New York City, which is why I chose the NYC marathon.

Benjamin was a dog lover, a musician, a pilot, a brother, a son, and the best uncle. He was laughter itself when he walked into a room, and he was the person you wanted to make you laugh during any stressful moment.

I am running in Benjamin's honor and memory, wanting to celebrate the light he brought into this world, and saying a loving goodbye while running through the city he loved. Like all people, my uncle was more than his addiction, and I hope to celebrate the fullness of his life, as well as offer encouragement and support to people who struggle with addiction, and the families, like mine, who love them.
