Welcome to My Fundraiser

Stephen Talaber

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I am running the New York City Marathon in support of Partnership to End Addiction, an organization with an incredible mission and a cause that is deeply personal to me.

I spent many years throughout my teens and early twenties struggling with addiction. That addiction took a huge toll not only on myself, but on everyone around me during that time. While I have been fortunate enough to overcome it, I lost many friends along the way. The one that hit closest to me was my friend Danny, who was like a big brother to me. He lost his own battle with addiction on December 9, 2022.

This story, unfortunately, isn’t unique. So many people struggle with addiction and lose their lives to it every single day. Here are some quick statistics...

  • We lose about 100,000 people every year to drug overdoses.

  • That equates to about 275 people every day—or one every 5 minutes (the time it likely took to read this page).

  • Drug overdoses are the #1 cause of death for people under 40 in most states.

  • It’s the equivalent of losing the same number of people we lost on 9/11, but happening every 10 days.

These numbers aren’t just statistics they represent lives, families, and futures lost. Your donation helps fund prevention programs, family support, treatment access, and education. Together, we can continue working to break the cycle of addiction and honor those we have lost, like Danny.
