In memory of Bill

Bill

My friend Bill what can I say about this gifted and loving man? He was a musician as well as one extrodinary jeweler. He and his family were well known in our little town. He was always full of life until his twenties. He began to play music in bars. He found pot, booze and eventually Heroin and what killed him... Methadone. He kicked the Heroin that took his soul he said. The ytreatment center he attended for 42 days replaced it with methadone. He tried the weaning off and was back on it through illegal methods. He was on it for years and eventually got hepatitis B and C. He died after his liver, kidneys and heart gave out. I remember going to see him in the hospital. He was delusional from the fever and was sitting up in bed his hands moving as you would to reel in a fish on a rod. He wash fishing and had caught a big one he said. This is what in earlier years he had loved camping and fishing. It was heart rending to watch. Yet the smile on his face is what I carry in my mind when I think of him. He had such a smile as he would shortly fade from our lives. He and both his parents died from some sort of addiction. He has one living sister. She is on pain relievers and sedatives. I hope she finds some peace at some point before she has to leave us. This whole family has been stomped into almost non existence from addiction. I hope someone hears this and can identify and seeks help.
