Hello, I would really like to speak to Dr. Drew about the methadone epidemic. You also may need to add methadone to this list as it is killing thousands a year. On 09-04-06 (Dr. Drew's birthday), I received the worst call a Mother could ever receive. My only child, Jamie was dead at the age of 23. Since them, I have helped start a group called Harmd (Helping America Reduce Methadone Deaths). In the last 15 months, I have found more information about this drug than I ever wanted to find out. I am a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in the state of NC and I thought I knew alot about this drug before (My son had already lost 3 of his friends to this drug), the youngest being a 17 year old female who got the liquid methadone out of a medicine cabinet of her boyfriend's Mother. Jamie was the oldest at 23. The diversion of methadone, from pain patients and clinic patients has got to be stopped. People are losing their lives, either bying it off the street, at a clinic for opioid addiction, or taken exactly as prescribed by their doctor's. In a year's time, Harmd has over 600 members. This is no longer acceptable. We are meeting with government officials, Senators, Governors, schools, DEA, FDA, anyone who will listen. Please help us get the message out that Methadone kills. In 2005 there were over 4000 deaths and the numbers appear to be growing every year. Im so sick of hearing methadone is the gold standard for opiate addiction.
