Our family’s story is one that mirrors millions of others. I often refer to our story as having the same chorus - different verse. That chorus refers to the emotional and physical journey we travel in trying to get our children help only to learn that there is no help. That chorus also refers to why so many families begin to lose hope – the lack of support, the shame, judgment and the “one size fits all” advice we are given at every turn – to detach, use tough love and let our son hit rock bottom. We found this black and white advice unacceptable. While this chorus continue for over three years, we chose to stay engaged with our son, help lift him up and advocate for his care. There were countless hurdles but we jumped those hurdles together. The verse – our son is in long-recovery. There's hope and help for families impacted by substance use disorder and addiction. Today we are a family in recovery planting seeds of hope. Families can be part of the solution #FamiliesCanHeal
