Welcome! My name is McCord Henry, and I am running the next NYC Marathon. My intent is to elevate awareness for the disease of addiction and to raise $3,500 for the Center on Addiction. For more information about the amazing work this organization does and how your donation will benefit those currently battling addiction, please visit their website: drugfree.org On April 3, 2017, I walked into the emergency room in Santa Barbara, CA, and asked for help. My body was suffering from alcohol withdrawals, and my options were either death, incarceration, or — change. Since that day, I have made it one of my life’s missions to exemplify that there is another option for those currently struggling with addiction. I know, all too well, that the desire to better your life has to come from within. You cannot force anyone to put down their vice. My hope is that those currently suffering will see that life on the other side of sobriety is every bit as incredible as it seems daunting. Finally, let me say that there is no monopoly on addiction, and that each individual is different. There are many roads that can lead to a better and sober life. For me, personally, I believe that we should always be humble and vulnerable enough to feel pain, and therefore, should always be in some state of recovery as we heal from and learn from those wounds. However, in specific regard to alcohol, I am done with this pain. I have healed. When it comes to the bottle, I am not living in recovery — I have recovered. I am living. Much love.
