Haley’s Journey
Haley Bourinot
My addiction started at 14 years old. I would drink every weekend at parties and get togethers with friends. It continued like that for two years (16) until I met my older boyfriend at the time who was an alcoholic and he was 21. I slowly started drinking every night with him to deal with the problems going on in my family life and unresolved childhood trauma. We broke up for good a few years later and my drinking turned into doing cocaine, ecstasy, molly, Xanax, adderal…really anything to numb my life. It went on like that for a couple of years, when I was 20 I met my now boyfriend who smoked heroin every now and then (he’s also in recovery) but his friend asked me if I wanted some so of course I said yes. I continued to smoke heroin till I was 22 when I found out I was pregnant with my son. I was put on subutex which I’m still on today. It was a hard journey for me, but my son pushed me to change my life. I had wanted to get clean for awhile I just couldn’t, but my son really gave me that motivation that I knew I had inside of me. He’s now 15mo and we’re currently in a family shelter. I’m trying so hard to better our lives.
