Changing my life

TMy name is June, My clean date is 10/28/09. I have over 3 years clean. I was a heroin IV user although any drug would do. I walked the streets of camden N.J. I was in and out of countless rehabs and jail over a five-year run. One day I had just had enough I couldn't even kill myself. I had lost my kids hadn't spoken to family in forever. I turned myself in for a violation of probation. Did 3 months, got out and went to a halfway house. Then a recovery house. I work a program of recovery.

When?I had 15 months clean, my brother overdosed. He died at 39 years old leaving behind a 1 year old son and a family that will never be the same. I miss him everyday. However, I didn't use. I do not use today. No matter what.

I tell my story and his because I know that we don't all make it back after a relapse. This disease kills. I work a life-long program. I sponser other woman and try to give back what was so freely given to me. I am a productive member of society. I'm a mother, a daughter and a friend. I'm getting married this year. All gifts of working my program.

There truly is a better way. I'm not that girl who walked in over 3 years ago. Life still shows up but I dont medicate. Couldn't do it without a program:) I love who i am today.
