Learn to Love Yourself

As my 15 year marriage was crumbling, much of it due to husband's pain pill addiction, I began using crystal meth to cope. At first, I used it recreationally to give me energy. It also allowed me to block out the disappointment of my marriage and my life,?not realizing the hold it had on me. I was arrested for possession in 2005 and spent 6 months in jail. My son was 12 at the time, and it took a toll on him. I was on probation and continued to use. I entered another relationship with an addict for almost 3 years.

Then on October 19, 2011, I decided to end that relationship and start my life over. My name is Wendy, I'm an addict and have been clean for 15 months.

Never give up, its never too late! Im engaged to a wonderful, loving man who is also a recovering addict. I have mended my relationship with my son, and live my life one day at a time. Keep God in your life and believe in yourself!

This Story of Hope was created in celebration of recovery and to let families know that there are pathways to hope and healing. The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who are struggling with their son or daughter's substance use. Please consider sharing this page so that families know where to turn to for help, and that there is always hope.
