Too young

Too young

I thought I just wanted to stay up late to see my dad get home from work. What I did not realize until years later was that at 7 years old I knew I would be given alcohol if I stayed up late enought to get to see my father come home with his friends where they 'relaxed' with a drink or two. They must have thought it was funny to see a 7 year old teetering around drunk. When the chaos of divorce added to this I was primed to go into a form of addiction which destroyed lives, a multimillion dollar business and all of any sense of self I may have had. Then in 1986 I crawled into a twelve step meeting at the age of 35 and after 20 months of digging I found my 'bottom' March 3, 1988. My clean date is March 4, 1988. Although not religious, today I have found a G-d that tells me there is a G-d, it is not me, he's got a sense of humor, he cannot lie nor learn and he wants me to grow. In 22 days I will have managed to have 25 years clean and sober. If I can do it, anyone can. I was too young to know 7 year olds shouldn't drink.
