A boy reborn
I began my using career at the ripe old age of 13. Back then, it was just smoking marijuana occasionally, mixed in with a bit of drinking here and there. It quickly grew into habitual smoking and drinking large amounts every day. As time went on, I became a waste of space in society. I was using any drug I could find to keep myself intoxicated constantly, and I was deteriorating into nothingness. Then, following a binge of drinking and popping pills, I was sent to jail and then rehab by my mother, a true angel in disguise. After a 3 month stint, I emerged a happy and healthy man. As of today, I have 20 months sober, and I have never been happier. It IS possible to recover, and I am living proof. Never give up hope, and work it, because you're worth it.
This Story of Hope was created in celebration of recovery and to let families know that there are pathways to hope and healing. The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who are struggling with their son or daughter's substance use. Please consider sharing this page so that families know where to turn to for help, and that there is always hope.
