Corey Kavadlo

I only really knew him as the most wildly colorful character in a family full of quirky, albeit much more restrained characters than he. It was well known that substance use had been an issue for Corey as a young person, but whatever that actually entailed was always a bit of a mystery to me and the younger generation. It wasn't necessarily swept under the rug, but whatever discussions it ever garnered were hazy and vague. My grandparents were Corey's safety net throughout much of his adult life, which he had no problems acknowledging. In fact, true to form, he had some great one-liners about everything coming full circle as he spent many later years fully devoted to doting on his aging parents. Corey's last few years were a slowly unfolding tragedy that we all saw coming, but yet no one could stop it. In the end, a body wrecked by years in the service industry combined with a lack of access to quality healthcare and way-to-easy access to powerful opioids overcame him. Corey is dearly missed by his family, but his contagious humor and spirit remains.
